@article{siegel_job_1973,
abstract = {The relationships of job involvement with participation in decision making, personal background, and job behavior and the moderating effects of personal background on the relationships between participation in decision making and job involvement were investigated for subsamples of employees from six manufacturing organizations. Job involvement was significantly (p $<$ 0.01) correlated with participation in decision making (r = 0.51), community size (r = 0.21), and turnover (r = -0.17). The correlations between job involvement and performance, absenteeism, and education were not significantly different from zero. As hypothesized, the correlation between participation in decision making and job involvement was significantly (p $<$ 0.01) greater for individuals with more education than for individuals with less education. Contrary to predictions, the correlation between participation in decision making and job involvement was also significantly greater for more urban individuals thanfor less urban individuals. These results were interpreted as supporting a ``complex man'' theoretical position with respect to the interaction between the individual and the organization and as indicating the need for further research on the determinants and consequences of job involvement.},
